[17:22] == vjeux [52e9ed5b@gateway/web/freenode/ip.82.233.237.91] has joined #sc2mapster-staff [17:33] hey here :) [17:37] hey hey [17:38] hey :) [17:38] hey [17:38] I don't know if sixen told you how it was going to work [17:39] not really said come here for more info [17:39] ok [17:39] == Zarakk [~chatzilla@213-67-96-103-no52.tbcn.telia.com] has joined #sc2mapster-staff [17:40] so your most basically your mission will be to moderate forums [17:40] Hey-o [17:40] == progammer__ [4a3ea6d2@gateway/web/freenode/ip.74.62.166.210] has joined #sc2mapster-staff [17:40] but we really want you to be a lot more than just moderators [17:40] and to be really involved in the community and do something [17:40] have a project you are going to work on [17:41] I know you have applied as you really want to help [17:41] and I want to give you the opportunity to :) [17:41] =D [17:41] just get to the point already [17:41] rofl [17:42] so I want you to find one project that you are going to work on [17:42] Uhm.. I have 4 already.. :/ [17:42] for example, set-up a FAQ [17:42] Ah that kind of :D [17:42] or work on the wiki [17:42] yeah :P [17:43] kk, the wiki needs a lot of help it seems [17:43] == progammer [4a3ea6d2@gateway/web/freenode/ip.74.62.166.210] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] [17:43] also the tutorial list would also be a nice thing to get up to date [17:43] so basically i want you to be in charge of something [17:44] the trigger wiki can be update with what action work what didnt, what unauthorized etc [17:44] ^ that would be wonderful as well [17:44] as you applied for the map dev forum, you know what are the needs of the community [17:45] and i'm sure you can work on wiki to make it enjoyable for the users for example [17:45] Yea I think the wiki is basically lacking everywhere :P [17:45] i can take that project, its now like a lists actually, more documentation needed [17:45] so i'd like you to think about one project you'd like to work on [17:46] will so. [17:46] do* [17:46] and once you've got it, we are going to find concrete objectives [17:47] for example fill 5 categories on the wiki [17:47] so we can see real progress [17:47] I think one thing at least, id like to take, is -keeping the tutorial list page up to date with new tuts- as well as a starting out with the editor FAQ [17:47] that we can show off to the users [17:47] and say, look it has changed thanks to me [17:48] oh since you are mostly on the map dev forum right now [17:48] we want to split it [17:49] and wanted to get your input on this point [17:49] split to trigger/data ? [17:49] I was thinking this way at the beginning [17:50] but figured out there were questions that could be both [17:50] yeah thats the only problem i see [17:50] also new people might not know which is right for what the want to do [17:50] if we do split it... keeping a "general" one might not be a bad idea... [17:50] we could make it like general/trigger/data [17:51] yeah! [17:51] ok it seam a little bit too much [17:51] or can make a solve/unsolved one [17:53] Well, I think general/trigger/data sounds pretty nice. It's a good split so "experts" know where to find questions to answer. I wouldn't make a solved/unsolved as this would require us to make sure that every topic is flagged appropriately, which is just insane [17:54] yeah solved/unsolved isn't possible :p [17:54] it is if you believe it is! -cough- [17:54] ok scrap that solve/unsolved, i just want something so they can find what is solved, may be a faq, compilation [17:54] i like the idea of general / triggers / data [17:55] I like the idea of it being split... i love organization, the only fear I have is, there are already lots of duplicated questions [17:55] about the duplicated questions [17:55] that's because we have no place where they can be looked up [17:56] Also I wanted to bring up the point the Trigger Libraries and Galaxy Scripting is kind of unfitting. Libraries are more like resources, while most of what is posted there are questions about something. Might be good to either have a sub-forum for libraries or to make a new forum for all kinds of resources (e.g. models, textures, libraries, etc) and keep the current forums for questions and discussions. [17:56] ! I was going to ask about that, are there plans for an updated search feature... aka search in one forum...ect? [17:57] s3rius: indeed, the galaxy forum wasn't really understood [17:57] I see people all the time say: i've searched and could not find this. I know I had seen it, so I do a search...and cant find it myself.. or takes a good 10 mins (And I know the post im looking for) [17:57] you can search in 1 forum, just use the search bar when in the forum index [17:58] as progammer__ you can search in one forum [17:58] I do... but it seems to add other stuff.. [17:58] -fail- [17:58] but i agree with you [17:58] i use the top one [17:58] hahaha [17:58] it only shows the post title [17:58] and not the actual content [17:59] Yea, sometimes when your search terms aren't perfect you get all kinds of results. From forum posts and from project pages. [17:59] oh also, what you have to know [17:59] there's no one atm developing the website [17:59] the 2 devs are way too busy on other projects [17:59] so the general rule is, it won't be changed [17:59] and if we are lucky, it will be [18:00] ouch hehe :P [18:00] i know this sucks, but really few we can do about that :( [18:00] we've been harassing them for months with sixen [18:00] you would think the main curse sc2 site would get some love =P [18:00] and it didn't really worked out [18:00] still wonder how they design a forum without such basic feature [18:01] basically, we (curse) took way too many different websites [18:01] without the workforce to properly maintain it [18:01] curse you :p [18:01] :p [18:01] ^^ [18:01] nice one [18:02] so yeah, i know the situation sucks, but i don't want to promess things that aren't going to come true [18:02] however, don't hesitate to make suggestions [18:02] so once they get free, they can work on the most important stuff [18:02] ok so about the wiki [18:02] http://wiki.sc2mapster.com/galaxy/main-page/ [18:03] i've been working on it the last few days [18:03] and i've extracted from the game files all the functions [18:03] and all the categories [18:03] so we want users to use it [18:03] I like the trigger editor setup you did, very nice [18:03] there are 2 ways to help as a user [18:03] easy one: put comments [18:04] hard one: edit the page and add content [18:04] basically the wiki is an organized way to answer the questions [18:05] so the info being on the wiki is like 10 less post on the forums [18:05] i'm going with edit the page, if some thing new happened or new patch broke the function, we can update depends on comment [18:05] and better user experience [18:05] Though we need to promote the wiki a lot, and it should become easier to find and use. [18:05] yeah [18:05] Honestly I never found my way through the wiki [18:05] so I just avoided it [18:05] the wiki was just trash so far [18:05] question [18:06] the "Maps and Mods Map Related Files" [18:06] what were your thoughts for that section? [18:06] start linking these wiki in the forum then, when they ask for a specific action, [18:07] Molster: basically atm only the trigger is done on the wiki [18:07] the rest is mainly placeholder [18:08] so yeah, your mission for the map dev is mainly work on the wiki [18:08] easy enough! [18:09] just need to get used to"WikiCreole".... never use it lol [18:10] yea [18:10] I think creole is a piece of xxx [18:11] It's counter intuitive [18:11] :p [18:11] cannot really disagree [18:11] do I really have to add \\ everywhere to get a line break?!?! [18:11] dumb question...is there no "editor" when editing the wiki? so i dont have to keep looking up he creole commands? [18:12] nvm.. my browser was hidding it [18:13] howdy :) [18:13] hey Alcoholix [18:13] s3rius: you usually don't need to do \\ [18:14] just came back from walking my dogs, will be off again in about 10 minutes tho. Going out for dinner with my dad [18:14] either you want to make a new paragraph and you use double enter [18:14] or you want to make a list so you use bullets [18:14] or you want to use <> [18:14] <> sorry [18:15] I understand all that, problem is that most people frequenting forums are used to bbcode [18:15] Well then my creole might just be screwed up. Because it often removes my enters and just puts my sentences behind each other. And I can't use double enter, too. [18:15] Yea I'm using the BBcode setting too. [18:15] Only image urls are convenient in creole [18:16] btw the bbcode implementation quite sucks [18:16] and is not default [18:16] I find bbcode to be very convenient [18:17] I always wondered about this forum, is it custom coded, or adapted from existing forum software? [18:17] == Grogian [899bc148@gateway/web/freenode/ip.137.155.193.72] has joined #sc2mapster-staff [18:17] More convenient than creole^^ [18:17] yeah ll my posts are in bb [18:17] Hello [18:17] custom coded [18:17] hi [18:18] btw, the forums were coded but never used before sc2mapster [18:18] that's why there are missing features [18:18] so we're like the GE. New, revolutionary, without support and full of bugs xP [18:18] =D [18:19] well, i wouldn't say we are full of bugs :p [18:19] lol [18:19] the software is still good [18:19] there are a few ^.^ For example quotes or code tags [18:19] what client do you use for irc ? I want to move on from this freenode [18:19] webirc [18:20] i use the firefox one... [18:20] don't know if that's just my problem, but If I don't include an empty line after these tags they don't format correctly [18:20] if this is the first release of this forum, I must say the developers did a good job [18:20] I use Mirc [18:20] speaking of forums...any chance we could get some....starctaft releated "no avatars"? [18:21] s3rius: yeah it needs to be alone in the line [18:21] my dock rocks... but still =P [18:21] duck even o.0 [18:21] dunno [18:21] maybe :p [18:21] how about outlines of starcraft units with the funky cloud algorith to fill them up? [18:22] Just modify some wireframes! [18:22] :D [18:22] just put -visit the wiki- in all the "no avatars" that will solve the advertising part =P [18:22] rofl [18:22] i have no idea where they come from [18:23] a farm.. [18:24] I read an article a while ago from the guy that made them.. the patterns inside the animals are generated with an algorithm on the user's name [18:24] is there a list of command here on freenode documented somewhere ? cant seem to find it [18:24] can't remember who the guy was tho [18:25] vjeux: it doesn't only need to be alone in a new line, I also need a newline right under it. If I write something right under the <> or <> tag it doesn't work either >< [18:25] ok [18:25] are you serious? [18:25] :p [18:25] I usually am (not) [18:26] using starcraft units instead of animals would be a great idea [18:26] == Grogian [899bc148@gateway/web/freenode/ip.137.155.193.72] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] [18:26] at least some iconic units, maybe not all of them ~~ [18:27] == ZeroAme [~zeroame@208.126.217.186] has joined #sc2mapster-staff [18:27] Hey everyone :] [18:27] Howdy [18:27] i can only find a duck, dunno how to change to other animal [18:27] hey guys [18:27] I don't think you can programmer, the type of animal is also calculated using the same algorithm
